City Communities
There are issues related to children and young people that affect London
as a whole and specifically to the black community; these include:
Gun
crime
Gang
culture
Under
achievement
Teenage
pregnancies
Drugs
and substance misuse
Disaffection
Parenting
These issues impact the whole community, devastates families and impacts
on public resources. Whole industries have been set up to fire fight the
effects. The time has now come for the community to unite to fight the
root causes.
Resources, what is the Roots Foundation?
The roots foundation is a self-help fund focused on tackling the issues
described. If 104 people donated £10 per month we would have 25,000
in one year (with gift aid and Government match funding. We need 35,000
people to donate an average of £10 per month to achieve 4M per annum.
(10M over the next year with Government match funding. That's approximately
£320,000 available for projects in the first year. The funding pot
will grow year on year as money continues to be invested.
Every
£10 you donate is worth £25 to the roots to fruits fund for
a limited period.
Who will the Roots Foundation benefit?
The foundation will benefit London, it will make London a better place
to live and work and provide our young people with hope.
How will the money be collected?
The income will be collected through the Capital Community Foundation.
Community foundations are charities dedicated to strengthening local communities,
creating opportunities and tackling issues of disadvantage and exclusion.
How will the money be distributed?
Projects will be invited to apply to the community foundation for funding.
Short listed applications will be taken through a 'friendly' dragons den
process to ensure that the project will produce the desired outcomes.
Outcomes will be measured.
How will you ensure that things are transparent?
The community foundation will only release the monies in line with their
policies and upon the approval of the board. The board will be made up
of community representatives.
